“Study hard, party harder”
III Degree is UCM’s go-to committee for anything party-related. We aim to organize at least three events every year: a Halloween party, a new year’s party and a summer ball. Organizing these involves a range of tasks such as brainstorming, discussing and settling on a theme, scouting for DJs, contacting possible venues, buying decorations, settling drinking deals and promoting our events through social media and face-to-face communication. Especially the promoting of a party is important, and our work does not really start until about two weeks prior to the event when the facebook event is made public, posters are being printed and distributed and tickets have arrived. This is when III Degree has to step up her game. Another important party-planning stage is the initial brainstorming and discussions about party names and themes. You may ask what’s in a name, but a name makes a party. Too long, too dull and dreary; too cliché and no one will take it seriously. This is why a lot of our creative energy is expended on a party name and theme, with some heated debate and some fun themes as a result.
III Degree aims to shift UCMers from the couches in the common room and the desks of the reading room, to the dance floors of Maastricht’s pubs and clubs. We want to provide a way for UCMers to get together, hang out and let loose outside of the walls of our beloved building, and the eyes of its beloved occupants. In order to be able to do this, III Degree meets every week to discuss ideas, problems, progress, and to assign tasks. The assigning of tasks goes according to preference, some of our more creative members may enjoy making a poster, other more practical members may prefer to contact possible venues and negotiate drinking deals. Whatever your strengths, if you enjoy a good party, or if you like organizing a good party, III Degree would love your input.
